Waikato Draught was first brewed in the 1920's and has been the beer of the Waikato region ever since. Willie the Waiter, a cartoon character, is the brand's mascot and has grown to become an icon of the region. Waikato Draught was awarded a gold medal and won best in class in the NZ Draught beer category in the 2005 BrewNZ awards. Waikato Draught is fermented at a much higher temperature than other beers, plus has a special aromatic hop resulting in a complex fruity, hoppy and spicy aroma. The strong maltiness finishes with a well defined bitterness. It has a smooth and clean texture, and a hoppy and spicy aroma.
